'Kalki' Hand Painted Tholu Wall Lamp
The hand-painted Tholu Bommalata lampshade by Bhaskar ji will fill your home with an earthly aura. These 'Mayur' lamp shades are handmade with leather and painted with bright colours and peacock motifs. These lamps evoke the eight centuries old legacy of this tradition. Tholu Bommalata refers to the puppet theatre from Andhra Pradesh in which characters from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata were carefully hand painted and used in shadow puppet shows. The translucent nature of the material would impart the puppets their distinct “glow in the dark” effect.
The Wall lampshade had a bun socket to go, and can be hung on the wall. The tiny hand punched holes in the leather shade allow the light to shine through, in beautiful patterns. These colourful and versatile lamps are appealing accents in any setting, whether they are placed inside or outside your home, or during the day or night.
